TV Shows: Drop Dead Diva, 8-30-09.

Posted by: Rowena in ,

Lots of things popped off in the last couple of weeks on Drop Dead Diva.

Since the last time I posted about this show, Jane, or really Deb has finally stepped into her lawyerly shoes and is kicking butt in the courtroom.

After this week's episode, my concern is that they're going to put the whole Jane/Grayson love thing on hold while they explore a relationship between Grayson and Kim.

Ugh. I don't want to see Grayson get with Kim. I don't want them to make Kim more human because I don't like her. I like having that one person on the show that I just can't like and for this show, Kim fits that bill. I hate seeing these little tid bits of Kim actually having feelings. I don't want to see those things because I don't want her to end up with Grayson. I don't want Grayson to even entertain the idea that moving on from Deb with Kim is a good idea because well, I don't want it, that's why.

Anyway, last week's episode ended with a kiss between Grayson and Kim and I screamed at the television...like, literally. In the past couple of weeks, we've seen these two get closer and closer. They're working on all of these cases together and they're getting to know each other and though we all know that Kim has the hots for Grayson, Grayson is still grieving for Deb so he's not paying too much attention to Kim...like that.

Until now.

Gah, Deb hasn't been dead all that long and for Grayson to already be moving on makes me mad because hello, you love Deb and if you'll only get to know Jane a little more, you'll realize that you didn't lose Deb...not completely anyway. The case that Kim was working on this week with home girl that is always guesting on all of these shows (I can't remember her name) I thought was pretty lame. She's caused all this comotion over her fiance' sleeping with her best friend (the MOH) and then after Kim gets good and pissed on her behalf, she drops the case and goes back to him?

Lame.

Jane's case was much more entertaining. I loved the crazy man and I loved seeing him make an ass of himself in court and then when he fired Jane, I loved how Jane realized that she had it all wrong and that the case wasn't a total loss. I thought it was cute for the son to get more involved with his father's compan and when everything worked out in the end, I smiled because this show is just too cute for words.

My favorite part of this show (or well, one of my favorites) is the friendship between Stacy and Jane. I think they're so cute. I loved that Stacy is forever trying to get Jane to eat healthier and I love that Jane turns to Stacy for help with her lawyer stuff and I love how they always help each other out. In last night's episode when they go to Jane's high school reunion and Stacy sets about making Jane popular with everyone there, it made me want Stacy to be my friend. It also makes me realize that I do have friends like that here in blogland and in real life. I'm telling you, if you're not watching this show you should be.

It's great.

I can't wait for more...which might not be next week but whatever, I'm looking forward to more.

Movie Review: The Inside Man.

Posted by: Rowena in , , ,

Starring: Denzel Washington, Clive Owen, Jodie Foster, Christopher Plummer, Willem Defoe.
Rating: R, for language and some violent scenes.
Grade: D

Four people dressed in painters' outfits march into the busy lobby of Manhattan Trust, a cornerstone Wall Street Branch of a worldwide financial institution. Within seconds, the costumed robbers place the bank under a surgically planned siege, and the 50 patrons and staff become unwitting pawns in an airtight heist. NYPD hostage negotiators Detectives Keith Frazier and Bill Mitchell are dispatched to the scene with orders to establish contact with the heist's ringleader, Dalton Russell, and ensure safe release of the hostages. Working alongside Emergency Services Unit (ESU) Captain John Darius, all are hopeful that the situation can be peacefully diffused and that control of the bank and release of those inside can be secured in short order. But Russell proves an unexpectedly canny opponent--clever, calm and totally in command--a puppet master with a meticulous plan to disorient and confuse not only the hostages, but also the authorities. Outside, the crowd of New Yorkers grows as the situation becomes increasingly intense tense, with Frazier's superiors becoming more concerned about his ability to keep the standoff from spiraling out of control. The robbers appear to consistently be one step ahead of the police, outwitting Frazier and Mitchell at every turn. Frazier's suspicions that more is at work than anyone perceives are justified with the entry of Madeline White, a power player with shadowy objectives, who requests a private meeting with Russell. The chairman of the bank's board of directors, controlling entrepreneur Arthur Case, is also uniquely interested in the moment-to-moment happenings inside the branch. But just what are the robbers after? Why has nothing worked to alleviate the standoff, which stretches on hour after hour? Frazier is convinced that invisible strings are being pulled and secret negotiations are taking place as the powder keg situation grows more unstable by the moment.

Man but this movie bored the hell out of me. It was so very slow for me to follow along with this movie because well, I don't know why it was boring. It just was. Denzel Washington's character was a little over the top for me and he seriously made me want to punch him in his face a few times because meh, I just didn't care for him. I usually love his characters (well except for when I loved to hate him in Training Day) but his character in this movie was too slimy and his hat drove me bat shit crazy.

Clive Owen's character was more interesting to me but I didn't understand a hot damn thing that came out of his mouth. His accent was very pronounced in this movie and it took me a little bit to understand what the hell was coming out of his mouth. Everytime he talked on the movie, I kept hearing Chris Tucker in Rush Hour when he was asking Jackie Chan, "Do you understand the words that are coming out of my mouth?" My answer would have been, "No."

Anyway, this movie is about a bunch of guys robbing a bank and a couple of detectives trying to piece everything together. The bank robbers pull off this elaborate robbery and everything is just so frickin' confusing that it was hard to stay clued in. Then the end happens and you're sitting there wondering, WTF?

I just didn't care for it, it was too confusing, too long and too just not good for me.

Adventureland

Posted by: Isabel in , , ,

Welcome to Adventureland, where the worst job imaginable is about to inadvertently turn into the summer that changes everything. Adventureland, a self-professedly "funtastic" Pennsylvania amusement park, appears to be the bane of recent college graduate's James Brennan's existence. He previously had big plans to spend the summer on a life-altering trek through Europe that would initiate him into real adult life. But when his family suffers an economic downturn in the middle of the Reagan 80s, James' only summer trip is straight to a minimum wage job manning a game booth so existentially bankrupt, no one is even allowed to win the giant stuffed panda. Yet, Adventureland isn't quite what it seems on the surface. For behind the cloying cotton candy aroma, the grating disco songs and the near pathological customers, there's a whole other world of misfit friends, hidden dreams and most incredibly, after-work encounters with the alluringly sharp-tongued arcade girl, Em Lewin. And when James discovers the hard-won courage to go to battle for Em, the result is a savagely funny yet sweetly heart-felt and unexpected encounter with "real adult life."

Not what I was expecting. It wasn't as funny as I thought it was going to be. The guy who played James reminded me of the guy in Juno. Not even Ryan Reynolds made me like the movie. Maybe if he had taken off his shirt or something. But I thought the movie was a little boring. Meh.

Grade D.

True Blood - New World In My View (Season 2, Epi 10)

Posted by: Monroe Dawson in , ,

In this past weeks epi of True Blood Sookie FINALLY comes back home and finds her town turned upside down! Everyone is still running around looking to find and sacrafice him to Maryann's "god". Sookie, Bill and Jason drive up to Sookies house to find it totally trashed! You know whats funny?!? The shot where they show you how disgusting Sookies house was...well I sat there and thought..."Now whos gonna clean that up?" LMAO! Seriously! Ok anyways they soon find out that everyone is in disarray and Jason storms off to "save his town"! This guy is such a moron! lol Well I say that BUT he really does end up helping BIG TIME! Andy and Sam (the only ones that seem to NOT have black eyes at the moment) are locked in the freezer at Merlottes. They get out but not before Sam decides it all needs to end and that means giving himself to Maryanns minions. Jason gets him back with his genius (ya who woulda thought) to act like the god they were following and taking Sam away. Is this the start of a smarter Jason Stackhouse...mmm...prolly not but we will give him this week! ;op~

While all of this is happening Sookie is trying to exercise Taras inner demons and get her back. Bill helps by glamoring her and Sookie finally sees the light at the end of the tunnel. Personally I'm glad to see Tara back to normal and I really hope she stays this way. I also hope Eggs gets killed...sorry I just don't care for the guy. Tara needs to get her life straight before she goes around looking for Boy Toys.

OH I totally forgot to mention that before Sookie and Bill left Sookie's trashed house they had a run in with Maryann! Maryann went to go after Bill and Sookie used her powers (or at least what we could kinda tell) and shocked the shit outta her! Ya so I had been throwing around the idea that they may play up Sookies strengths to end Maryann and I think I may be on the right track!

We leave the epi on a scary note...Bill goes to seek help from who? We dotn know...ok I do b/c Ive read the books. Its Sophie-Ann, the Queen vamp of Louisiana. The shot pans off on a chair that has blood on it. I dont think its Sophie-Ann b/c shes supposed to be in the next epi. So who is it? IDK guess we will find out next week!

Lastly I gotta talk about the kiss in the beginning of the epi...OMG I almost died! Then Sook woke up! I tell you I yelled so loud my hubby came into the room to make sure all was all right! I told him "No...it was a damn dream" this got me a really odd look and an eye roll but who cares! ;op We all know Bill is loosing Sookie...NOT FAST ENOUGH IF YOU ASK ME! lol

Movie Review: Iron Man.

Posted by: Rowena in , ,

Starring: Robert Downey Jr., Gwenyth Paltrow, Terrance Howard, etc.
Rating: PG-13 for for some intense sequences of sci-fi action and violence, and brief suggestive content.
Grade: B

Tony Stark is a billionaire industrialist and genius inventor who is kidnapped and forced to build a devastating weapon. Instead, using his intelligence and ingenuity, Tony builds a high-tech suit of armor and escapes captivity. When he uncovers a nefarious plot with global implications, he dons his powerful armor and vows to protect the world as Iron Man.

I enjoyed this movie, really, I did. I guess because I had heard so many good things about this movie that I hyped it up to be something that I don't think it could have delivered. I enjoyed the movie for what it is, mindless enjoyment.

Robert Downey Jr. was a great Tony Stark. He was fun, witty and incredibly funny and it was easy to follow him around while he turned himself into Iron Man. He totally made this movie. The romantic in me totally dug the side love story between him and Gwenyth Paltrow's character and I'm definitely up for seeing the sequel that I hear will be released next year sometime.

I would definitely recommend this movie to those out there who are wanting an entertaining, action movie with a great storyline, fabulous characters and just a rolicking good time. This would definitely be the movie for you.

Movie Review: Death Race.

Posted by: Rowena in , , ,

From Yahoo! Movies:

Starring: Jason Statham, Tyrese Gibson, Joan Allen, Ian McShane, Natlie Martinez.
Rating: R for strong violence and language.
Grade: D

Terminal Island, New York: 2020. Overcrowding in the U.S. penal system has reached a breaking point. Prisons have been turned over to a monolithic Weyland Corporation, which sees jails full of thugs as an opportunity for televised sport. Adrenalized inmates, a global audience hungry for violence and a spectacular, enclosed arena come together to form the 'Death Race', the world's biggest, most brutal sporting event. Five-time NASCAR champion Jensen Ames is a man who has become an expert at survival. After eight years of hard time, he has only six weeks before reuniting with his family. But when Weyland demands a driver to headline the big game, Ames is forced to submit. Donning the costume of mythical rider Frankenstein, the racer becomes an instant crowd favorite, an unequaled sporting superstar. His face hidden by a metallic black mask, one convict will be put through a brutal three day challenge, with the trophy being the ultimate prize: freedom. The only catch is that he must survive a gauntlet of the most vicious criminals in this post-industrial wasteland to claim it. Driving a monster car outfitted with machine guns, flamethrowers and grenade launchers, Ames must now kill or be killed to win the most treacherous spectator sport on Earth: 'Death Race'.

Hmmm, this movie was about an ex race car driver man who was wrongfully framed of murdering his wife and then sent to prison to race in the Death Race. The Death Race is what certain prisoners are racing in for their freedom. In Fast & the Furious, the racers race for pink slips, in The Death Race, they race for freedom.

I don't know why I watched this movie. I had absolutely no desire to watch it in the theaters and yet I watched this movie. I thought it was pretty lame for the most part but for some unexplainable reason, I sat through this movie and watched it from beginning to end. I was entertained but for the life of me, I couldn't figure out why. I thought Jason Statham's character got hosed and I wanted to punch the Wardens' face more than a dozen times throughout this movie. This movie is like a mix of Fast & the Furious and The Condemned. Lots of action, lots of cheese and lots of ridiculous dialogue made up this movie. Would I recommend it? Not really, it was just meh.

Sunshine Cleaning got rave reviews when it came out in theaters. I didn't have a chance to see it, but I've been waiting for it.

Duplicity I went and saw in the theaters. It was a fun movie, Clive and Julia and masters of their profession. Good fun.

Channing Tatum. Need I say more? LOL

True Blood - I Will Rise Up (Season 2, Epi 9)

Posted by: Monroe Dawson in , ,

HELLO!!!...I'm totally satisfied with this past weeks epi of True Blood. First off as you see you get a little Sookie/Eric action (even if it is only in Sookies dreams). We found out last epi that when Sookie thought she was saving Eric's life buy sucking a bullet out of his chest (oh ya baby) she swallowed his blood therefore he knows her feelings at all times and she will actually have a bit of a sexual side affect to him! I mean come on who wouldn't?!?!

In Godric news...it was horrible! I totally cried my eyes out b/c we went to "meet the sun" on top of the hotel. When Sookie went up to be with him she got to see a touch of Eric's sensitive side by crying his eyes out and begging him to stay. SUPER SAD! And as Eric goes to go back inside Eric and Sookie stare into each others eyes in understanding of their hurt.

Hoyt and Jessica...OMG crack me up! Hoyt decides he wants Jess to meet his mommy...that doesn't work out very good and his mom and Jess have a little showdown in Merlots! lol That leaves Hoyts ma sitting at the table by herself drinking beer! lol OH and I forgot to talk about Jessicas magical cherry growing back every time they have sex!!! LMAO! SERIOUSLY?!?!

Another thing I wanted to talk about was FINALLY Eggs and Tara are getting suspicious of Maryann's behavior AND their behavior! lol Ok last epi Eggs and Tara beat the holy bajaysus outta each other so you see their bruises (which is hilarious). Well now they get all drunk one night and Tara's mom and Lafayette come barging into Sookies house and kick eachothers asses AGAIN then they abduct Tara and drive off! LMAO Idk...that story line is getting wack! lol

OK...and my last comment...WTF...sexy Eric=HAWT!!!

Smiley Eric=CREEEEPPYYYY!!! If you seen the show the past few epi's oyu know what I'm talking about! He look like he might violate you...I like my Eric MEAN! ;o)

Movie Review: The Time Traveler's Wife

Posted by: ~ames~ in , , , ,

Monroe and I both went to see the Time Traveler's Wife opening night. Here is our joint review of the movie. There are spoilers.

Starring: Eric Bana, Rachel McAdams

Movie description from Yahoo: Clare has been in love with Henry her entire life. She believes they are destined to be together, even though she never knows when they will be separated: Henry is a time traveler--cursed with a rare genetic anomaly that causes him to live his life on a shifting timeline, skipping back and forth through his lifespan with no control. Despite the fact that Henry's travels force them apart with no warning, Clare desperately tries to build a life with her one true love.

ames: So Monroe, what did you think of the Time Traveler's Wife? For myself, I really enjoyed it! It was faithful enough to the book and Eric Bana is no hardship to watch for almost 2 hours. LOL

Monroe: LOL you're totally right on the Eric Bana AND how well they stayed close to the book!

First off the casting:
Eric Bana as Henry-
Mmmm...wow. First off when I found out he would be Henry I was totally excited. You dont picture Henry being a pretty boy. You picture a dark and handsome man thats rough around the edges. I flet he played true to Henry- you know being a very unique person, passionate, tough yet caring, eccentric even! Perfect cast for me!

Rachel McAdams as Claire-
PERFECT! OMG RM always plays in movies that are very deep with meaning. Her acting is always spot on with me and I believe she truly brought Claire to life. Claire was a girl who grew up rich, she could care less and so therefore she was not your typical snob. She did things her way and too was a very passionate person.

I love how they kept so close to the book! I was super worried about that. Now of course it being a movie they have to skip over a lot but I flet they kept with the original rawness of the book. The cursing, the sex, the time traveling. Nothing was sugar coated in my eyes. OH and how cute was Alba...I could just put her in my pocket! She almost made me want a little girl of my own...notice how I said ALMOST! ;op

ames: Oh man - Alba was definitely a cutie! And I like that scene when Claire asks, who's Alba playing with? And Henry is like "Alba." LOL

What about that little girl that plays a young Claire? She was the cutest!

Eric Bana as Henry was definitely spot on. And I'm not saying that just because I think he's the best. LOL Eric is a really gifted actor and him and Rachel McAdams were wonderful together. Rachel is so beautiful and she's definitely one of my fave actresses too. They both did an excellent job.

The movie was very faithful to the essentials of the book - and all the other stuff needed to be sacrificed. That stuff makes for a good book for sure, but it would definitely bog a movie down. This movie was about Henry and Clare - and the book was about them but also all the people around them. So yeah, I'm glad with this adaptation (also b/c Gomez had such a small role - did not like Gomez' character in the book and I do not like the actor who played him LOL).

Monroe, how do you think people who haven't read the book will like the movie? I was thinking about that last night.

Monroe: That's kinda a heard question to answer being I have read the book. Hmmm...(anyone reading this that has seen the movie but not read the book feel free to answer this one) BUT I
think they would still really like it. I went with two girls last night to see it. One had read the book, one hadn't. The one who had read it loved it! She was pretty much saying the same stuff we are BUT I will say the girl who hadn't read it did like it however DIDNT CRY?!?! lmao how could you not?!?!? I guess I could say that they would like it...would it be earth shattering...not to all but I still think not knowing everything about it they would still really enjoy it. Which to me shows a good movie. They didn't leave the important stuff out that only a book reader couldve filled in if that makes sense. Ill compare it to Twilight book/movie. Loved the movie but I flt if I hadn't read the book I would be confused about the emotion between the two. I would've questioned why they felt so strong, why he acted as he did...etc. So I would say they did a better job at keeping things close and understandable!

I know this is totally out of order but how did you like the ending? Obviously its a bit different than the book but how did you like it?

ames: Ok, my feelings about the book really affected how I saw the movie. Plus the movie did skip over Claire's childhood and so the movie doesn't do a good job of explaining how big a role Henry had in Claire's youth. And that plays a huge part of the book and it explains why Claire loves Henry. Because in the movie...we're told she loves him, but we don't know why really. And Henry loves Claire because she makes him feel safe.

Ooh! Another thing I didn't like was that they made Claire out to be the aggressor and get herself knocked up. LOL But in the book, it was just something that happened and no one planned that a younger Henry would do what he did. You know?

I liked the ending - it was a hopeful ending. The ending of the book made me bawl my eyes out. You?

Monroe: LOL VERY TRUE! I believe Claire does have an aggressive nature BUT she didn't act upon it when it concerned her getting pregnant. They did skip a lot of why Claire fell in love with Henry...one thing I wouldve loved to see was when that guy in her childhood hurt her and Henry beat the crap out of him and tied him to a tree. Ya that wouldve shown a little more, you know him caring for her and protecting her. I loved when he went to 6 year old Claire and she was jealous of whoever he marries! lol too cute!

I LOVED the ending! NOW I wouldnt say I loved it more than the book b/c honestly I loved how the book ended even though it might be confusing to others I felt it was natural and honest. Not what you would expect. In the movie I felt it was as equally good. It was hopeful and your heart swelled with love. And how about after he left and Claire and Alba just look at eachother with tears in their eyes and all of a sudden Alba smiles, almost a reassurance to her mother that they will be ok. OMG Im getting choked up right now! And they folded the clothes...I was waiting for her to say "ok lets go put the clothes back in the woods" or something like that! lol ;o) Like he would come again!

Wait I forgot to ask...you cried right???

ames: Well I cried when it was New Years and the things that happened happened. LOL I don't want to give it all away you know. And at the very end, I got misty eyed. It was a very hopeful ending.

Claire being jealous of herself was sooo cute.

I also love the wedding - the way things worked out. That was one of my favorite part of the books, when they get married. AND hello? When Henry is checking out his new hair cut? He looked so hot right at that moment. LOL

I've read a few reviews of the movie and some of the reviewers seemed grossed out by a grown up Henry kissing Claire as an older teenager. So I'm thinking maybe its a good idea that all the stuff that happened to Claire as a child was glossed over. You definitely need to read the book to understand what happens between Henry and Claire.

Monroe: See remember thats how I told you I got the book...I had never heard about the book but my boss knew I read a lot and he was reading it and got to the part where they kissed and he was like NO!!! And stopped reading it. I think a lot of those people who thought that probably didn't read the entire book...idk. She was older...in his head he was like I wont take advantage of her, but in a way was kinda hot buy seeing his wife younger. Mind you she was what...17?

But ya they did haze over that situation. BUT I loved their first kiss when she was 18! :o)

ames: Well for me - it doesn't really show in the movie that Henry is already married to Claire by the time he goes back to see her when she's younger. I don't know, I think some people might not see it until they get married. That he's married to her, so he's seeing his wife - not some random younger chick in a meadow. LOL

I loved their first kiss too. They did a good job with the special effects of making people younger and older. It was good.

Monroe: Ya I SO loved when he traveled for the wedding and she walks down and her has gray hair. lol LOVED THIS MOVIE!

ames: Me too. So what grade would you give it? I'm giving it an A-.

Monroe: Same here...super good with very little flaw! :o)

True Blood - Release Me (Season 2, Epi 7)

Posted by: Monroe Dawson in , ,

Alrighty guys in your latest episode of True Blood we jump right into the story...I'll just highlight my fav parts and go from there! :o)

Eric is outside with Isabel talking about the situation of Sookie and Hugo being captured. Eric brings up how Isabel is with a human and he doesn't understand her fixation(obviously we are starting to see something in Eric and Sookie and hes confused by it...I'm totally excited being a part of TEAM ERIC). Isabel tells him its all about love. Humans love more and live more b/c their life is so short. Eric reflects on that a bit but shrugs it off. I can't wait for him and Sook to get a little action. In fact Im a bit sexually frustrated with them. Screw Bill! Give me some Eric! ;o)Bill is still trapped by that ho Lorena (which btw isn't she perfect for that roll?) and he finally gets away by beating her over the head with a flat screen TV! LMAO!!!

When Eric goes to Sook to save her you find out Godric was well aware of the FotS's plan for him and basically he kinda thinks he deserves it. Oh and btw Godric is kinda hot! :o) In the mean time you find out that Hugo is a traitor but the Fellowship doesn't help him at all as far as they are concerned hes a fang banger and his ass is grass!

Obviously they all get caught and Eric tell the FotS that he will go in Godrics place. There's a big fat uproar and by then Bill shows up (*eye roll someone stake this guy already sheesh!) they all get interrupted by more vamps coming in to kill everybody but Godric doesn't let them b/c hes mister high and mighty. Whatever- they all leave. OH but not before Eric basically makes Newlin piss his pants in fear! lol

Later on at a party Lorena and Sook face off and Lorena gets her ego hurt b/c she gets thrown out of the party for trying to punk out Sook! lol I know that's not the last we see of her so the story is gonna start to get better! AND whats even better is how Eric tells Bill that basically Sookie will be his! I sense a little foreshadowing going on here! ;o) All of a sudden a member of the Fellowship comes in and we close on him sacrificing himself to kill everyone (he totally has bombs all over him)!

Oh and a few smaller things...Sam gets away form his gruesome death, Eggs kills Daphne b/c hes being controlled by Maryann, Eggs and Tara eat Daphne's heart in a pie (lmao), AND FINALLY Jessica and Hoyt get some action! lol

So overall it was a busy episode! I really enjoyed this one and yes sometimes the acting is cheesy, and yes the accents make my ears bleed and YES they stray from the book BUT ITS SOOKIE how can you not want to watch it! :o)

Episode 8 is called Timebomb and here I found a sneak peak pic for ya!

Oh and one last thing...Wena, I and Isabel play Sims for fun (where are ya Ames?!?!)...well gals I found this pic of Sookie and Bill Sim style! lol TOO FUNNY!

Quickie Movie Reviews/Thoughts

Posted by: Isabel in , , , , , ,

Rowena and Ames have both reviewed these movies, so I'll just touch on them.

In 1958, as part of the dedication ceremony for a new elementary school, a group of students is asked to draw pictures to be stored in a time capsule. But one mysterious girl fills her sheet of paper with rows of apparently random numbers instead. Fifty years later, a new generation of students examines the capsule's contents and the girl's cryptic message ends up in the hands of young Caleb Koestler. But it is Caleb's father, professor John Koestler, who makes the startling discovery that the encoded message predicts with pinpoint accuracy the dates, death tolls and coordinates of every major disaster of the past 50 years. As John further unravels the document's chilling secrets, he realizes the document foretells three additional events -- the last of which hints at destruction on a global scale and seems to somehow involve John and his son. When John's attempts to alert the authorities fall on deaf ears, he takes it upon himself to try to prevent more destruction from taking place. With the reluctant help of Diana Wayland and Abby Wayland, the daughter and granddaughter of the now-deceased author of the prophecies, John's increasingly desperate efforts take him on a heart-pounding race against time until he finds himself facing the ultimate disaster -- and the ultimate sacrifice.

Knowing was better than I expected. It kind of creeped me out. Not that it was scary. Just that I got the same feeling I get when I watch stuff on Nostrodamus or other end of the world predictions. I knew these predections weren't true but still..

As for the strangers, I thought they were creepy. Joey thought they were some kind of demon or angel. Then when they all came out, cause there was 4, Joey said they were the 4 horsemen. Then it turns out they're aliens. So I'm like... okay.... Why would aliens want to save us? But then I had just watched a show on the history channel about the theory of aliens coming during the ancient times... So you never know. I have thoughts on that but I won't get into it. ha ha. It just seemed the movie was going one way then went another.

A taxi driver gets more than get bargained for when he picks up two teen runaways. Not only does the pair possess supernatural powers, but they're also trying desperately to escape people who have made them their targets.

I remember watching the orignal movie as a child. I remember enjoying it. I expected this one to have a bit more comedy than what was actually in the movie. It was still good though. Even my hubby liked it.

ames: There are some changes happening at the Boob Tube. We're welcoming a new member!

Welcome Monroe!

Monroe and I got to know each other earlier this summer. We watched So You Think You Can Dance from start to finish. (And we never blogged about it! GASP) But with her love of movies and tv shows, I think it's a natural fit for her to join us at the Boob Tube.

Wena: I think so too. She’s become such a huge part of my days at work and I’m so glad to finally have her on board over here at Boob Tube. I talk to her everyday and it’s funny how often we talk about our favorite shows and our favorite movies and I can’t believe it's taken us this long to invite her to be apart of the blog.

ames: I know. But now that she's graciously accepted our invitation to blog with us, all will be well. LOL

Wena: LOL, so please help us welcome Monroe frickin’ Dawson to Boob Tube. She’s going to add to the funness around these parts so really, that’s gonna be a good thing! =)

ames: Also - she's a fan of the Office. So hello - so natural! LOL

Wena: HA! She’s a JAM fan, woot!

ames: Heck ya!

Movie Review: Forever Strong.

From Yahoo! Movies:

Rick Penning lives life just like he plays rugby; fast, hard-hitting and intense. When life on the edge lands him in jail, prison ward Marcus Tate offers him a chance to get back in the game by playing for his rival, Highland Rugby. Reluctantly Rick joins the team where he must adopt the grueling training schedule and unique code of conduct that Coach Gelwix enforces, or finish out the season behind bars. Egos clash as bitter competitors struggle to become a team. An unlikely brotherhood is formed with his Highland teammates, just as Rick is released from jail and sent back home to rejoin his former team, coached by his overbearing father. Heading into a faceoff with Highland at the National Championship, Rick is forced to choose where his loyalty lies.

This was one of those movies that I came across as I was adding movies to my queue on Netflix. Three things caught my eye as I was checking this movie out. 1) It's a rugby movie. 2) It's starring Sean Faris and 3) Dan from Gossip Girl is in this movie as well. I'm a huge rugby fan so that was the number one thing that drew me to this movie. I think Sean Faris is a cutie patootie and so I jumped into this movie already excited for it.

I really enjoyed watching this movie. I thought all of the characters were well acted and Sean Faris did a fantastic job as Rick. I thought he was such an asshole in the beginning of the movie when he was playing on his Dad's rugby team and then to see the way him and his friends thought the world revolved around them was so aggravating. I wanted to punch Dan from Gossip Girl in the face so many frickin' times. When Rick gets arrested and then gets sent to that Detention Center in Utah, it made me laugh because everyone that I know who moves to Utah works at one of those detention centers and to see someone I actually know working at the Detention Center in this movie had me laughing like a loon. The great big Polynesian guy that was in this movie's name is Leroy Te'o and I was in his wedding line for his first wedding. LOL!

I liked seeing the slow change that came over Rick's character in this movie. I loved falling in love with him slowly over the course of this movie. The change in his character is what totally made this movie for me. I enjoyed getting to know him and getting to see the changes playing for the Highland rugby team did for him. He wasn't a surface changer either, he made some really big changes in his lifestyle to fit in with these boys and to see him fall in love with his brothers on the Highland team was too effing cute.

This movie is about a wayward boy growing up and learning things about life that every young boy should learn. It's about a boy who was offered a second chance at life, a do over you could say and learning from his mistakes and becoming a better person for it. This movie was cute and a total chick flick because it's got plenty of hotties in it and a sweet ending. I enjoyed it and all of you women out there who love oogling hot rugby players will love this movie.

I love Meryl Streep. She's the best. And this looks cute - smart, but cute. Which I cannot say about a few of the chick flicks I've seen lately (shopaholic, he's not that into you UGH). Also, same director as Something's Gotta Give, which is a fave of mine.

Check it out.

new releases on DVD for August 4

August 4th! I can't believe we're already in August.

I saw Obsessed in the theaters. I had a few chuckles, which I don't think were intentional. But this kind of movie, you can't take it seriously. You know it's going to be cheesy fun and that's what it was. Idris Alba is hot.

Movie Review: Funny People

Starring: Eric Bana, Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, Leslie Mann, Jonah Hill
Genre: Comedy
Rating: B-
Eric Bana's Performance: A+

As soon as I saw that Eric Bana was in this movie, I knew I was going to see it. And oh man, he's freaking hilarious!

But first, everyone else. Adam Sandler plays George Simmons, a successful comedian who has just found out he's dying. Trying to cheer himself up, he goes to a comedy club and after a disastrous set, is impressed by struggling comedian Ira. So George hires Ira as his assistant (keep him organized, write some jokes) and these two begin to form a friendship. George at first keeps his disease (a form of leukemia) hidden from everyone but Ira tells him that he's got to tell other people eventually. So George starts tellings others and the most important person he tells is the one that got away, a former fiancee whom he cheated on. By telling her he's dying, it gives them an opportunity to let each other know that they still love each other and that Laura, in an attempt to find someone opposite of George, ends up marrying a cheating scumbag anyway (Eric Bana).

But then George, who has been taking experimental drugs, discovers that he has gotten better and he decides to go after Laura. And then we see how much almost dying has affected George.

Ok. So Funny People definitely had some funny parts. But the whole friendship thing between George and Ira gets overshadowed in the last half by George and Laura. Ira is still around, trying to do the right thing, but that kind of blows up in his face. However this movie for me has always been about Eric and omg his character is such a spaz! Eric's character, Clark has been married to Laura for a while now and he's a businessman who is dealing with companies in China. Laura confesses to George that Clark has cheated on her. So you're all ready to hate him when he finally appears in the movie (in the last 45 minutes I'd say he shows up - and then proceeds to steal the movie for the next 25 minutes). *sigh* Eric Bana is really funny.

In the end though, the movie as a whole is kind of uneven. The first half is good, then when George detours with Laura, the whole vibe of the movie is kind of lost. But it's not horrible. I still had some good laughs and if you're a fan of Adam Sandler, Judd Apatow, Seth Rogen or Eric Bana, go see this movie.
